Local Small Businesses Learn About Funding

On May 5, 2016, the Innovation Center closed out National Small Business Week with the inaugural “Where is the Money?” event. The Innovation Center hosted the event, the first of its kind, and had 102 participants attend.

In keeping with Entrepreneur Night’s theme, “Where is the Money?” was an event that aimed to inform local small businesses and startups about the resources available to them within the region. Its focus, however, was on funding/ financing.

Attendees were able to learn more about funding resources available to them as panelists presented their programs. Afterwards, attendees were given the chance to network—allowing them to meet individually with representatives of the panel.

There were two panels presenting on traditional, debt financing and non-traditional, alternative sources.

Debt Financing:

  • U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)
  • LiftFund
  • People Fund
  • Kleberg Bank
  • Wells Fargo Bank
  • First Community Bank
  • American Bank
  • Navy Army Credit Union
  • Business & Community Lenders (BCL of Texas)

Alternative Sources:

  • South Coast Angel Network (SCAN)
  • MassVentures
  • SunTx Capital Partners
  • Nationwide Capital Funding
  • Corpus Christi Regional Economic Development Corporation
  • Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend
  • Economic Development Administration

During the event, the panelists pitched their programs to the audience. After this, the audience was given the opportunity to ask more in-depth questions.
