Knowledge is Key: The Entrepreneurial Series

Very often one of the most difficult and fundamental needs for a new business is finding the money for the development of their venture. This is where angel investors help. These are Individuals who are searching for early stage businesses they identify as acceptable risks.

Tropical Texas Regional Center for Innovation, similar to the Innovation Center, advises innovative businesses and will be co-hosting a monthly business education series with six relevant topics. The goal is to understand what angel investors are looking for by educating the audience on the process and details regarding angel investing.

David Clark, Director of Investment Service of The Texas Technology Development Corporation (T3DC) and Dr. Randy Goldsmith, Investor in Residence of T3DC, are the speakers of the series. Mr.Clark will be speaking at five of the sessions and June fourth Dr. Goldsmith will present.

David Clark was brought up in San Antonio, Texas and has 25 years of experience from positions in senior sales and marketing management. Such experience was gained from working at IBM/ Trivoli, PeopleSoft, and TRW. During this series, Clark will give insight into the process of launching new ventures based on innovative technologies.

Dr. Randy Goldsmith has over 25 years of experience in the field of innovation-led economic development. He is the founding member of the Capital Formation Institute, the Texas Coalition for Capital, Defense Transformation Institute and the Venture Coaching Academy. Goldsmith has assisted over 1,000 entrepreneurs in their efforts to launch new companies and has presented at national and international events that focused on technology commercialization and new ventures. He is also the author of The Guardian Angel: Every Entrepreneur Needs One.

The series kicked-off with a session covering angel investor’s priorities when seeking businesses on March 12, 2015 leaving four sessions remaining. The Innovation Center received great feedback from the audience and expects the same in the remaining sessions. They are as follows:

  • April 2: Building a successful management team. [R.S.V.P.]
  • May 7: Marketing aid and intellectual property protection. [R.S.V.P.]
  • June 4: Financial details to prepare  [R.S.V.P.]
  • July 2: What to Look for in an Angel Investment Opportunity [R.S.V.P.]

Sessions will be held in the Innovation Center lobby on the first Thursday of the month starting April 2nd and continuing through July at 11:45 am – 1:30 pm and will include free lunch.
