Tours Showcase the Diverse Entrepreneurial Spirit at the Innovation Center

November 10, 2014

During the month of Oct., the Coastal Bend Business Innovation Center (Innovation Center) gave a couple of tours. The groups that visited the Innovation Center included: Leadership Corpus Christi (a leadership program established by the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce), Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC)’s Student Economics Association (SEA) and Social Entrepreneurship class by Dr. Lucero.

On Oct. 6th, Leadership Corpus Christi attended a presentation at the Innovation Center. The presentation was given by the staff of the Innovation Center, and it emphasized the importance of having a healthy entrepreneurial eco-system.

Leadership Corpus Christi is, according to the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce’s website, a “training program for emerging and existing leaders.”

According to the chamber’s website, the purpose of the program is to “educate potential and existing business and community leaders through exposure to the diverse realities, personalities and challenges in the community and to develop and enhance visionary leadership skills through in-depth training.”

The program was developed in 1972 by the Chamber of Commerce and is the third oldest leadership program in the nation.

On Oct. 22nd, TAMU-CC’s Student Economics Association (SEA) was given a tour of the Innovation Center. The SEA, according to their Facebook page, “promotes the interest in and understanding of economic thought and issues, and sees how economics is applicable to everyday life.”

TAMU-CC SEA was founded in 2001 and is an organization within the College of Business.

On Oct. 29th, Dr. Lucero’s class on social entrepreneurship visited the Innovation Center and two affiliate clients, the Texas Sea Life Center and the Texas Surf Museum, had interesting discussions with the class. The discussion outlined what each company does in the Coastal Bend region and how the Innovation Center has further aided non-profit companies in the entrepreneurial process.

“The Texas Sea Life Center is a nonprofit 501c3 organization dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation and release of coastal and aquatic life,” states texassealifecenter.org.

Whereas the Texas Sea Life Center works to conserve the coastal eco-system for the future, the Texas Surf Museum is working to conserve the past—namely, the history of surfing in Texas. The Texas Surf Museum is the only surf museum within the state of Texas and is open seven days out of the week.
