This past spring, a new initiative was started by the Innovation Center as they assisted in the formation of a new angel investor group known as the South Coast Angel Network (SCAN), which is a self-governing group of accredited investors. This is a great forum for the introduction of small businesses and startups to angel investors.
An article appeared in the April 2014 volume of VISION magazine detailing this venture.
According to that article, “Angel investors provide entrepreneurs with the opportunity for equity and debt funding to support the growth and sustainability of their business. SCAN [is] a part of a larger umbrella network known as the Alliance of Texas Angel Networks (ATAN), giving the individual investor access to deal flow while providing the entrepreneurs with exposure to angel investors throughout the entire state of Texas.”
Several presentations have already been held, where eligible entrepreneurs pitched to SCAN their business plan and gave information on their company.
